Highway 299 is the northeastern route from the coast into the Trinity Mountains. It starts in Arcata and begins to rise quickly after the casion town of Blue Lake. From there you will find mountain passes and the steep Redwood Valley en route to Willow Creek.

Glendale Drive is a small stretch of road that is accessed off of Highway 299 or at the Blue Lake exit take a left turn. There is a pumpkin patch, some small shopping stores, light industrial and the E and O Bowling Alley.

Redwood Creek Valley ( VIEW FULL PAGE )

The stretch of Redwood Creek in Humboldt County is 5.4 miles long and is rated by American Whitewater as a class II section. The put-in is not too far from Arcata off Highway 299. It has wonderful California scenery and cool fresh water that beats anything. This is a pretty decent length section, good for a one day paddling trip.

Route 299 is the major route over the hills in the north of Humboldt County. On this road you will go over several passes between Blue Lake and Willow Creek. It is a scenic route that eventually follows the Trinity River and leads out to Highway 5.

The Trinity River is the longest tributary of the Klamath River, approximately 130 miles long. It drains the Trinity Alps, the southern Klamath Mountains, and parts of the Sacramento Valley. Considered especially scenic, along most of its course it flows swiftly through tight canyons and mountain meadows and follows Highway 299.
